Environmental HealthAnd Safety: The Provective Path towards Wellbeing and Sustenance

Over the past few years, health and wellness have expanded to a more holistic conversation than just diet and exercise. More and more people are realizing the implications of our environment on our health. This realization has spawned the field of environmental health that looks at the connection between our environment and how we feel. In the midst of negotiating these complex aspects of modern life, it is increasingly important to work towards better understanding and the amelioration of environmental health outcomes both as a part of improving individual well-being and for achieving global sustainability.

What is Environmental Health?

The third form of public health-environmental health-is concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment that may affect human health. This includes research on how the environment (air and water quality, exposure to chemicals, climate change, built environments) influences our health. If this is how we live nowadays, we should consider that these are all factors of our heath risks, quality of life etc.

The Influence of Air Quality

The issue of air quality stands out as a prominent environmental health obstacle in modern times. The substandard air quality, arising from industrial discharges, vehicle fumes, and various contaminants, can result in respiratory ailments, cardiovascular complications, and possibly untimely demise. As per the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution is accountable for an estimated seven million fatalities annually on a global scale.

To enhance air quality, there exist numerous actions that can be undertaken:

  • Decrease Vehicle Emissions: Opt for public transport, carpooling, cycling, or walking whenever feasible.
  • Advocate for Clean Energy: Support and endorse sustainable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric power.
  • Uphold Indoor Air Quality: Utilize air purifiers, ensure adequate ventilation, and refrain from using products containing detrimental chemicals indoors.
